Welcome to another episode of Filmcraziest Interviews and this is one from Fantasia Film Festival, where I had a conversation with the creative team behind Canadian thriller The Oak Room, featuring the director of the film, Cody Calahan; writer of the film, Peter Genoway; and producer of the film, Chad Archibald.
The film had its World Premiere at Fantasia on August 24 and it also has another screening at 11:30 p.m. on August 31. The film is about a young man, Steve (RJ Mitte), who returns to his small Ontario town in the middle of the night and visits a local basement bar at closing time. We learn that the bartender, Paul (Peter Outerbridge) is a friend of Steve’s late father and that Steve owes Paul money. Steve’s all out of cash so he instead offers him a story about what happened last week at the Oak Room bar.
The film stars RJ Mitte, Peter Outerbridge, Ari Millen, Nicholas Campbell, Martin Roach, David Ferry and Amos Crawley.
In the interview we discuss “goosing the truth,” what it was like adapting Genoway’s original stage play for the screen, as well as some on-set stories, and more. My review of the film can be found here. You can listen to the interview below, and you can download the interview here.
