It’s nearly Halloween time, and you know that means the season for nostalgia is ramping up as people revisit horror films from their younger years, and that’s especially including classic Disney Channel Original Movies like Halloweentown or the first ever DCOM, Under Wraps.
And speaking of Under Wraps, the Disney Channel has made a 2021 remake of the film, which is now streaming on Disney+. The film follows a similar story, about a trio of friends – Marshall (Malachi Barton), Gilbert (Christian J. Simon) and Amy (Sophia Hammons) – who decide to investigate the basement of a neighbour’s house and accidentally bring a mummy back to life. They name him Harold, and the catch is they have to put him back in his sarcophagus by midnight on Halloween night, otherwise he’ll turn to ashes.
For a bit of a mashup between my podcast The Filmcraziest Show, as well as my podcast The DCOM Team which I am reviving in time for this Halloween, I was able to speak with actor and choreographer Phil Wright, who plays Harold the mummy in the remake.
In the conversation, we talk about stepping into the shoes of Bill Fagerbakke who played Harold in the 1997 version, as well as a bit about the make-up, the process for playing Harold and getting the grunts down, and a bit about the audition process, and trying to make a good remake that will please the fans of old. You can find that conversation directly above on YouTube.
The film’s currently streaming on Disney+ and if you’d rather just listen to the conversation, you can listen to it directly below or go here to download it.
